TMJ Disorder Treatment
About TMJ Disorder
The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) connects your jaw to the temporal bones of your skull. This joint allows you to move your jaw up and down and from side to side, so you can speak and eat.
Symptoms may include jaw pain, headaches and ringing in the ears.
Most often caused by misalignment of the teeth and/or jaw, other factors can contribute to the disorder, such as skull shape, respiratory problems and injury or trauma to the jaw.
TMJ Disorder Treatment
At the Dentisterie Intégrale clinic, our dentists can diagnose and develop a treatment plan for TMJ disorders. Treatment may include wearing a mouthguard at night to prevent clenching and teeth grinding.
Your dentist may also recommend relaxation techniques, physiotherapy or the use of a TENS device (an electrical stimulation device) to encourage facial and jaw muscles to relax.
In some cases, orthodontic treatment may be required to treat problems with tooth alignment. Our dentists will work with you to create a customized treatment plan.
